Philter48 Blogged Bible Study – Galatians 4:20b

“…I am perplexed about you.”
I’m not going to expound on grace, law, slaves, servants, and sons.
This verse has a myriad of content buried in just a few words.
King James says “I stand in doubt of you.”
As a leader of sorts at our small church, I’m often perplexed. I’m perplexed by those who say they love God, but complain about helping in church work. I’m perplexed by those who want to be given grace and claim to have been given grace, yet find a way to be legalistic toward new converts or other young Christians. I’m perplexed by those who say they GIVE their tithe to God, yet complain about how the “church” is spending “their” money. I’m perplexed by those who wonder why we don’t have a pastor, yet THEY never show up for church. I’m perplexed by those (me included) who complain that we have no new faces or visitors, yet never invite a single person. I’m perplexed by those who say the choir is small, yet never open a hymnbook.
Sometimes, church leaders are perplexed by the followers of Christ that those leaders are called to shepherd. It was, clearly, true in Paul’s day, and it’s just as true today.

Bernard, you hit so many nails on the head here. I’m guilty at feeling this way at times, but it seems that the Lord is quick to jerk my chain and get my perspective back where it needs to be. Don’t know what the answer is, our humanness is gonna shine through no matter how hard we try. Any thoughts? I mean we’re talking about getting the church back to where it needs to be, and the things you have listed here are common everywhere….
I’m also perplexed at how to fix it
