“ Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
It’s easy to correct harshly and forcefully, so that the offender gets the message that this is a big deal.
It’s easy to restore by force and even with punishment.
It’s easy to restore vengefully, taking it upon myself to fulfill the office of God.
Obviously, this method isn’t right.
Meekness. “Power under control.”
The bodybuilder who doesn’t break the skinny runt in half even though he could easily do so.
The parent who lovingly disciplines the child instead of using his age and size to intimidate and cause fear.
The pastor who speaks tenderly and privately, yet authoritatively, to the couple living in adultery, rather than abusing the power of the pulpit just because he can.
The Christian who lovingly helps the alcoholic convert find his way without the bottle.
Power under control.
Meekness.
