With sadness….

6 Apr

As most of the Christian blog world is already aware, the Internet Monk, Michael Spencer, passed away yesterday after a short battle with cancer.

His writings have been such a friend to me.

Thrive Africa

20 Mar

I’ve never met Alece Ronzino.  Probably never will.  That’s okay.  We really don’t know each other.  That’s okay, too.

She’s the founder and head honcho of Thrive Africa.  That’s a missionary organization dedicated to Africa, specifically the Basotho people in South Africa.

Missions and missionaries, in the typical Southern Baptist church, are FAR too impersonal.  We never meet the people who are actually on the ground doing the stuff that we so casually pay for with Cooperative Program funds and Lottie Moon Christmas offerings. That’s a shame, because we’re rather insulated from the work that really goes on.

Thrive Africa isn’t a Southern Baptist organization.  I love that.  No offense to the SBC, but I’m sick of the doctrinal infighting that controls missions organizations that we support.  I love the missionaries, but the managing agencies need to get a grip.

Alece and Thrive Africa have suffered some hard hits lately, but right now they face, as do a lot of other missions organizations, the crunch of the world economic situation.

They need money.

Pray about giving.  I really, sincerely, wish I had thousands or even millions that I could give.  (I don’t, just to be clear…)

I don’t plug a lot of organizations here.  I’m pretty much a MAF devotee for relief efforts and general giving, but this is a plug for Thrive Africa.  I don’t have hundreds of readers, by any means, but you guys and gals are important in the kingdom, and I know you have great hearts for the cause of Jesus Christ.

Check out this crew.  Pray about what God would have you do to possibly help them out.

Then do it.

Snowmen

Snowmen in Canton, NC

I found this just downright hilarious.  Belly-laugh hilarious.  Had to snap this while driving, but it still cracked me up.

Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures

One thing I HATE about Gmail is the lack of any ability to customize signatures.  Signatures in email have the marvelous capability of just being signatures, or of being templates for email

Enter Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures, a plugin for Chrome and Firefox.

Some stuff just ROCKS.

Wow, Thomas Nelson

27 Feb

Looks like I’m not alone in my disappointment with Thomas Nelson’s Bibles.  I do really like my King James Study Bible, but not the fact that the pages come out very easily.  Seems like a few years ago (mine is about 8 years old) they must have had some difficulties.  Don’t know if they used a cheap glue, or what.

NOTE – I posted my situation in the comments above and received an offer from Mr. Hyatt within 10 minutes to replace the Bible.  That’s exceptionally good service for a Saturday morning, especially since I wasn’t even thinking of any such thing.  I’m impressed and pleased.
