Church Wit Da Kidz

1 Feb

This will sound like a pompous “I’m more spiritual than you” post.

I’m not.  I promise.  I’m just a guy desperately trying to be like Christ.  Desperately.  Usually, I fail.  Terribly.

Yesterday, however, was a bit of a high point for me.  Due to the first snowstorm of Twenty-Ten, Crossroads canceled all services, so the Shufords remained home for a portion of the day.  (We did duly make our way out later to feed our physical bodies; yes, we’re hypocrites…)

The thought crossed my mind first while in the shower, I think, as most of my good thoughts do.  (If I could remain in the shower for at least 3 hours a day, surely there would be world peace and no economic difficulties.)  The thought was to just have a brief “Shuford Church”.  Yeah, I know, all good daddies do this without thinking about it.

Nobody preached, although it was more than slightly humorous that Karma and I both chose “praising God” as our theme with absolutely NO planning.  We sang “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace”, prayed a couple times, and we were done.  For once, I am pretty doggone sure that we did something right.

The weekend looks shot…

Generator.  Gas.  Auto tanks full in case more gas is needed.  Siphon hose.  Extension cords.  Food.  Drinks.  Water in bathtub for flushing.  Water in jugs for washing.  Bottled water for drinking.  Ice melt.  Chains for Jeep.  Flashlights.  Batteries.  Propane.  Lantern.  Cookstove.  Kerosun heater.  Kerosene.  Matches.  Wood for stove.  Shovel.  Gloves.  Toboggans.  Milk.  Bread.  Cheese.  Peanut Butter.  PopTarts.  Fruit Loops.  Blankets.

Yep, the weekend looks shot.

Friday Thawts

30 Nov

  • Boomin’ bikes. What a concept.
  • Lotsa time over at sbcImpact spent discussing Sunday morning church service traditions…
  • The ACLU needs to get a grip. This is ridiculous. I’m the most anti-Clemson of all sports fans, probably, but I love Coach Bowden’s position.
  • My son has become consumed – in a childish way – by Ben10.  I haven’t decided where I stand on the show yet.  At first glance, it makes Spongebob appear pretty benign, but Ben is a good kid, basically.  There are just some BAD characters.
  • Freaking Packers lost to freaking Cowboys and freaking Brett got hurt.  Not good.  My buddy Steve Hinson is gonna have a heyday with me on Sunday.  Oh, well.  Can’t win ‘em all.
  • The Optoma DV-11 projector for the church should arrive today.  Now to learn how the flip to best incorporate it and maximize the potential…
